November 23, 2023 – With the Nov. 22 national elections behind us, it is time to look ahead. The elections resulted in a landslide win for the Party for Freedom (PVV). Its leader Geert Wilders founded the party in 2006 and focussed on one key theme: the Islam. Over the years Wilders’ party had a steady base of voters, but due to its extreme statements such as prohibiting mosques and banning the Koran it was excluded from coalition talks, apart from one minority cabinet that relied on the support of the PVV before collapsing.
To the surprise of many, the PVV became the largest party. What does this mean for the Dutch political landscape?
